Scrolling

Scrolling renders the scale and volume of online violence into physical form. Over the course of a year, I collected hostile comments from social media, printed them onto thermal paper, and installed them across twelve pull-down mechanisms. The act of pulling mimics the scrolling of digital feeds while also evoking toilet paper—suggesting how online data is consumed, wasted, and overlooked. The thermal paper gradually fades with time and temperature, symbolizing the rapid erasure of online violence in the digital sphere. By materializing intangible comments into tangible matter, the work confronts viewers with the overwhelming scale of data, revealing both the banality and forgetfulness of online violence.
