MODERN PILLORY
24''x32'', 2018Artist Book, Wooden plank , Print paper
MODERN PILLORY employs the historical punishment device of the pillory to examine mechanisms of public shaming in contemporary online environments. Presented as a handmade book that mimics the pillory’s structure, the work compiles the complete textual record of a single incident of online violence—including user comments, media coverage, and public discourse. Historically, the pillory forced offenders into exposure and ridicule before the crowd; in digital space, similar forms of collective punishment are reproduced through social media. The work reflects on how online communities, under conditions of anonymity and lack of accountability, perpetually reenact public humiliation and moral judgment.
《MODERN PILLORY》
